My Disappointment in Skoda India
21 Mar, 2026 by Arsh Jethi
Context
Although the title says Skoda India I am writing this for the entire group, Skoda and VW. Today the pricing for Kushaq was released and my biggest gripe is forcing of stupid features to everyone when some of us only want the 1.5L powertrain.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to buy a crossover, my eyes are on the sedans which might follow the lead of Kushaq's underwhelming variant spread.
What is Actually Needed
Just a Sportline variant (subtle, blacked-out elements) that strips away the following features from the top spec for "sporty" reasons:
- Remove the sunroof! (Market it as "higher torsional rigidity")
- Remove the electric seats and massagers (Call it "weight reduction"—even if it only saves 5–10kg, enthusiasts will love it)
Keep these:
- The 1.5L TSI engine paired with all-around disc brakes
- Keep the premium speakers and sub-woofer
- Keep the ventilated seats, the summers are crazy hot
Add these:
- Factory-tinted glass: Aftermarket tints are not allowed so give factory glass with IR and UV protection
- Better Rubber: Now that Michelin manufacturers tyres in India, add Pilot Sports or Primacy stock
- Real TPMS: Give us actual pressure values, not just a warning light.
- Tactile controls: Actual physical buttons and knobs instead of the capacitive trash
The "Please Don't":
- Skip the ADAS and 360-degree cameras. We want to drive the car, not be babysat by it.
Closing Thoughts
It's so simple ain't it? It would be even better if they could add a 6 speed manual but I know developing a transmission with shorter shifts and better clutch feedback is easier said than done.
Will be back when I have more to ramble about!
